SAFETY COMMITTEE
In line with the IBEW Constitution and our Inside Wireman’s Agreement, Local 570 is forming a Safety Committee. The committee will investigate serious incidents, promote safety, support injured members, and work with contractors to reduce risks. The safety committee consists of the following members:
Bob Sidwell Chairman, Billy Vanderhoof Co-chair, Carlos Romero, Adrian Hall, Steve Butt, Jennipher Williams, Dave Wallace, Scott Toot and Josh DeSpain.
Member participation is key—we’re seeking volunteers to represent our full jurisdiction. The committee will meet regularly, review OSHA standards, and help ensure safety remains a core part of our culture and work.
Protecting our members is essential. No one should have to choose between their safety and their job. Our goal is to provide the membership with the safety tools and knowledge that will benefit the individual as well as the industry.
CBA 2026-2029 SAFETY
SECTION 3.06 When employees are required to work in areas where injurious gases, dust or fumes are present in amounts necessitating the use of gas masks or respirators, such gas masks or respirators will be approved for the conditions and furnished by the Employer. On jobs where employees are required to work from trusses, building steel, ladders, inadequate scaffolds, or cable supported chairs, baskets or scaffolds, at a height above forty (40) feet (measurement to be made from the floor to the work), they shall be paid an additional one-half (1/2) times the regular straight time hourly rate, in addition to the applicable rate. Any work performed in underground mines, shafts or drifts shall be paid an additional ten percent (10%) above current wage of employee. Only Journeymen Wiremen and Sixth (6th) period Apprentice Classifications permitted to work underground.
It is agreed and understood by both parties hereto that the above Section is added to this Agreement only to encourage the Employer to strive to arrange for the best safety conditions on hazardous work, and not to be used promiscuously to obtain an increment of pay by the employees.
When suitable drinking water is not available, serviceable drinking water containers or water bottles with potable water shall be provided. Ice will be provided to the job location when the temperature is above 77 degrees at the worksite.
Reasonable provisions shall be made to provide shaded jobsite lunch and pre-fab locations when practical.
If a circuit, or equipment of 50 volts and above cannot be safely de-energized, then a Method of Procedure (MOP) must be filled out by the supervisor, and read and understood, signed by all qualified persons (minimum of two) as determined by the employer, who will execute the work on the energized circuit/equipment. All workers exposed to live parts shall be properly trained per OSHA Standards 29(CFR) and NFPA 70E standards a minimum of every 3 years.
The Employer will furnish all safety equipment including personal protective equipment (PPE) required by NFPA 70E for shock and arc-flash protection, in addition to barricades, insulating blankets, insulated tools, safety grounds and lock out/tag out supplies necessary for the employee to perform their work in a satisfactory and safe manner.
The Employer shall furnish a complete OSHA required First-Aid Kit, on every jobsite.
ALUMINUM step or extension ladders shall NOT be used on any work covered by this Agreement. Nylon or other highly elastic rope will NOT be used for power pulling.
Safety Report
If you would like to report a safety concern on a jobsite, please complete the following Safety Report. Any report filled out and submitted will be emailed directly to the Safety Committee. Only members of the Safety Committee will have visibility of any reports that are submitted with contact information.
